An interesting sex toy arrived at the lab this morning and it sparked my curiosity. Not only was it a waterproof vibrator but it included a wireless controller. Pipedream calls it their Distant Lover Waterproof Vibe, but I called it a good excuse to have some fun with my new lab assistant. So I loaded it up with batteries (included) and got work putting this remote control sex toy through its paces.

This sex toy consists of two pieces. The first is the vibration unit which is a rounded cylinder that can be unscrewed in the middle to change out batteries. It is made of smooth red transparent plastic so that you can see the internals. It has no external controls or buttons save for the wireless remote control. The remote control takes its own battery and has one switch and a LED light. The switch is used to activate or deactivate the vibrator. It is not multi-speed, it is either on or off and the LED light shows when it is transmitting its control signal. I would not leave the batteries in the vibrator when not in use as a certain amount of battery drain will occur while it waits for the next activation command.

Since it is the Distant Lover Waterproof Vibe and it claims to have a powerful long-distance remote control capability, I had to put this through some testing. I started out by activating it a few feet away and it quickly turned on. I then move about 12 feet away and it turned on. I moved to a different room in the lab 24 feet away and it turned on. I moved clear across the lab and it turned on again (about 40 feet). I even changed floors and it turned on (50 feet). I was thinking about heading outside to see if it would still turn the unit on, but it was raining. I am pretty confident that you could take the remote control most places in your home and activate the vibrator with a flick of a switch.

I also submerged the unit in water (yes it really is waterproof) and it turned on, so it is set for hot-tub fun. I would try and use it externally only unless you know that you don’t have problems when playing with sex toys underwater (hot tubs are notorious breeding grounds for all sorts of bacteria).

Technically it works, but does it please? I gave it to my lab assistant along with a bottle of lubricant and asked her to start playing with the Distant Lover. Its shape seemed to work for her and it had a strong enough vibration to stimulate without being over the top. I switched the unit off and let her play with it solo while I left the lab. I then activated it a few minutes later and listened in to see if that changed the situation. The oohs and aahs suddenly increased as she wasn’t expecting it to turn on. So it is good for a little remote control you never know when fun. I think the not knowing when it will activate or how long it will stay on is a fun aspect of its use.

I can think of some other cool uses for it. Stick it in a glass or some other sounding chamber and leave the room. It makes for a great remote-control alarm clock for getting someone up as it can create a good racket as it vibrates against the glass. Place it on her lap while she is asleep and remotely activate it for a pleasant wake up call. I am sure you can come up with some of your own ideas for remote control fun.

Remember when play is done. Don’t be a fool and clean your tool and in this case clean-up is easy with a little soap and water due to the Distant Lover’s smooth surface and waterproof shell. Don’t get the remote control wet or your fun may come to a quick end.
