After a spicy evening of dinner, Cajun food, and drinks with friends I was feeling a bit spicy myself. I decided to check out a horny little movie entitled Beat the Devil; another one produced by Digital Playground and starring Jesse Jane. (Be sure to check out the Jesse Jane interview by Silicon Slave) I was so excited, figuring it would be just as entertaining as Digital Playground's Loaded (my review of Loaded).

This one sure was a devil of a movie; at times I wanted to beat the TV back to life. To be honest I was not super impressed with this one. The concept is a guy sells his soul to the devil in order to gain wealth, power and all the girls he could ever dream of. Well then he’s got problems and wants to renegotiate his contract.

The character of the devil is scary. Now I know you say, he’s supposed to be scary he’s the devil. But he’s scary in a psychotic gross sort of way. I couldn’t really stomach the guy. Now the sex scenes were OK. The first one was nothing great, I felt there was way too much moaning and the 2nd scene was girl on girl which didn’t look too believable and almost painful in parts. Needless to say it did nothing for me.

But then we really get into the meat and potatoes of this movie. I’ll call it the “Fuck-Off” scene: Jesse Jane’s character gets to go at it with the devil, and go at it they did. Overall, I was not real hip on this scene either, however I will admit there were some really good camera angles that intrigued me.

Now the last major scene in the movie was worth it alone, for sitting through the rest of it. It was so great I made a note that is started at 1:03:43. I’ll refer to it as the “Red Couch” scene and boy did it get me hot and bothered – the best scene of the entire movie!! Miss Jane is quite limber and I got an aerobic work out just watching it. What an incredible climax for just a so-so movie.

Now wanting to make sure you guys got a full review I checked out the bonus features. The only one I really got into was Behind the Scenes. It was here that my negativity towards this movie turned around. You learn it is Miss Jane’s first ever boy/girl scene (could have fooled me!). And her original partner cancelled that morning, so the man she performed the “Red Couch” scene with she had only met moments before!

It was just fun to see the actors so relaxed. And you get to meet the human side of the character Belial (the devil). Evan Stone is just adorable in this section and funny too. The one complaint I do have is the fat person dig at the beginning of Behind the Scenes. Yes, while I understand California is the land of beautiful people (I used to live there!) and the porn industry is full of beautiful people, I don’t feel this dig added any value to this section. If the porn industry wants to “de-mystify” itself and become more female friendly this is certainly not the way to do it. All right, I’m getting off my soap box now.

While this movie won’t be put on my frequent viewing shelf, it did have some climaxes – especially the “red couch” scene. I would not call this an overly couple friendly movie but it could work if it had to, especially if you are into the whole psychotic gross devil thing. Maybe with a few more spicy bloody Marys in me, I would not have been so beaten down by Beat the Devil.
