| Woooaaahhhh ..... DUDE.......Flashing lights, toys to play with, music (almost sent me into a nasty flashback)... what more could a man ask for... especially a guy who likes sex and goes to a sex show. I guess not much except beautiful women... nope that was there too. Things were pretty good at the 4th annual Taboo Sex Show in Vancouver BC, Canada, held Jan 13 – 16, 2005.
I ventured forth on the Saturday night (worst night to go due to the snow - hmmmm snow - wrong kind, damn) and was amazed at the crowds. Vancouverites like their sex and this showed as they will leave their igloos in the land of ever-lasting ice and snow in the Great White North only on special occasions. This seemed to be one of them. The aisles were pretty packed. Speaking to many of the vendors, the one common theme was, “Why didn’t I bring more product? I ran out way too early!!” I told you Vancouverites like their sex. There were many vendors there ranging from health and nutrition, to limousine services to toy vendors.
As I walked around, it was amazing to be surrounded by so many like-minded people. All the vendors were busy and yet still found time to talk with me. It took me about 3 hours to go through the show the first time and then about another 2 hours to go back to the booths that I couldn’t get into earlier (not to mention staring at the pipe and bong displays taking up a lot of time). Every now and then I would stop to watch the various shows on the center stage (did I mention the pipes and bongs as well, my short term memory isn't that great anymore). There were shows scheduled about every half hour to an hour that covered a variety of subjects. I quite enjoyed the fashion shows from various manufacturers.
I found one booth in particular that usually had a crowd and that was the booth of body painter Jeff King who was doing live demonstrations throughout the day. I’m hoping to get time to sit down with Jeff in the near future for an interview. There were appearances by some long time Vancouver staples in the industry such as The Love Nest and Little Sisters Book & Art Emporium and by newcomers to the business like RPM games and Open Sundaes. It was definitely a full show. I guess being from the land of ever-lasting ice and snow prompts people do figure out how to occupy their time stuck indoors, and this is definitely a show that brings out the best we have to offer.
So the next time you’re in Vancouver in the month of January, don’t forget to see if the Taboo Sex Show is on and check it out. I know you'll enjoy the displays of pipes as much as I did. I give it 9 out of 10 peace signs. Later DUDES and DUDETTES....PEACE!!!!
Please note, all stereotypical references in the article to Canadians are NOT true, we only live in igloos half the year;)
